Who is Mirza Muhammad Hakim? Why is he important? Did he do anything significant? What is the story?
Humayun, the second Mughal Ruler had only two sons who reached adulthood (perhaps because of High Infant Mortality at that time). One was Akbar who almost everyone knows about. The second was Mirza Hakim. Akbar and Hakim were therefore brothers. Actually they were half-brothers (same dad, different moms).
Humayun had four wives. The youngest of the wives, Mah Chuchak Begum gave birth to Hakim in 1554. When Humayun died in 1556 Akbar was 13 and Hakim was 2. Father's empire had now to be divided between the sons. This division however was not equal. The larger empire of the Hindustan (modern day India) was given to Akbar. And the smaller empire in the Indus Valley and Kabul (modern day northern Pakistan and north-eastern Afghanistan) was given to Hakim. This created a rift among the brothers, because Hakim would spent all his adult life trying to prove that he is the true heir of the empire while Akbar would spend his proving otherwise.
